Following his 'apprenticeship' as a quantity surveyor and achieving a first in his degree finals, Neil joined Woodman where he headed up a small team of surveyors. Working on many projects as the principal quantity surveyor, including the £10m refit of the American Express European Headquarters in Brighton, Neil excelled in bringing in each of the elements of work, fully tendered and under budget.
Neil then moved into Project Management where his background in quantity surveying and rigorous control and focus on project time and costs formed the cornerstone of the company's on time, on budget guarantee.
Neil, along with colleague Gordon Reed, became a director of Woodman in 1999. Shortly after this, the then MD retired and Neil and Gordon took up the reins. Together they have taken Woodman into new fields such as design and build work for car showroom refurbishments as well as maintaining the relationships with existing project management clients.
Neil's strengths are based around his training as a quantity surveyor in that project budgets are strictly maintained and, as a skilled negotiator, he can often find solutions to problems where previously none could be found.
Since joining Woodman as a Contracts Manager in the early 1980's, Gordon has been instrumental in assisting with the company growth by developing a client base and the structure to support it. Gordon specialised in delivering complex projects within occupied buildings, including the £10m American Express European Headquarters refit in Brighton. His strength in project programming stems from his early years 'on the tools' that gave him an appreciation of tasks and timescales.
Gordon, along with colleague Neil Upton, became a director of Woodman in 1999. Shortly after this, Gordon and Neil took control of the company leading Woodman to explore opportunities and establishing Woodman in a wider range of market sectors.
Gordon's main strengths lie in his ability to man manage, team manage, programme and liaise at all levels from blue chip corporate directors through to the on site personnel. Welcoming a challenge that others may shy away from, Gordon takes great pride in delivering projects on time and on budget.
